Gentry Service Group'sCommunity Involvement

Gentry Heating Cooling Team

Since 1963, Gentry Service Group’s heart has been immersed in community involvement. We understand the importance of serving our friends and neighbors who are less fortunate and in need of our helping hands. It is with great pride and commitment that we participate in many local programs to reach this goal. Gentry Service Group provides all employees with an additional paid day off each year for missions work or service to the community.

UPDATES COMING IN FUTURE!!
This past Saturday, about 20 members of Gentry Service Group along with some family members and our company chaplain, jumped in to our FIRST SERVE EVENT SINCE COVID to help the residents of the Independent Village at Black Mountain Home for Children. This section of the home prepares youth for post-group home life where they have an apartment and a part time job. It was our pleasure to work with some of the folks there spreading fresh mulch in the plant beds, paint and stain picnic tables, power-wash, cut down trees and refurbish their volley ball courts. We are so thankful to be able to support the wonderful work the Black Mountain Home for Children does for our community.
In December of 2020, Gentry was blessed to help 10 kids have a great Christmas at Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth & Families. Our employees rallied together to get each kid items from their wish list so that they would all have a wonderful Christmas. We could not be more appreciative of the blessings that we have been given to continue our ministry for the 2021 year!
This November, Gentry Service Group’s President, Duane Gentry, and GM, Mike Young, dropped off all the supplies the organization was able to pull together for the Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth & Families! We had two vehicles loaded up with supplies for cleanliness and care. Gentry Service Group is a proud member of the Buncombe County community, and driving efforts to give back through ministry and many organizations.
In July of 2020, the Gentry Service Group team was able to pitch in by donating an entire Carrier system and installing it for a Habitat for Humanity build here in Asheville. We love helping our community any way we can, and are very proud of our team for always willing to spread the love.
With all the worry going on, we want to bring some heart warming news to everyone! On Wednesday, March 18th, Gentry Service Group and First Citizens Bank presented Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry with a check for heating assistance. Eleven branches of First Citizens Bank collectively raised $5,132.10 and Gentry Service Group provided a $5,000 matching gift. The donation will help those families that need assistance with any heating related services needed for their home. See it on the news here: https://wlos.com/news/local/businesses-chip-in-to-help-abccm-provide-heating-assistance
Gentry is raising money to build a house, supply families with stoves, and tile and pour flooring for the orphanage. This is our 4th trip to Guatemala to help families in need. We would love your support to provide for the families of Guatemala City. If you are interested in supporting or learning more, please call us and ask for Cole Stewart. Thank you!
This past Sunday, the Gentry SERVE event was held at Black Mountain 1st Baptist Church, in the homeless shelter. Our team provided and prepared spaghetti with garlic bread and salad and served it to people in need. Each team member got a chance to have dinner and great conversation with the people who attended the dinner. Check out some photos below!
This September, team members from Gentry Service Group volunteered to participate in the 37th Annual Henderson County Hunger Coalition Hunger Walk! The association actively raises funds to supply food for individuals who are facing emergent situations. Several of our employees helped by handing out water and providing encouragement to the walkers – we even had one team member participate in the 5-mile route! We would like to personally thank Courtney Maybin, Cameron Maybin and their foundation, #MaybinMission, along with Southern Homes & Land and Southern Commercial Corporation, and Judy Gibbs Real Estate Inc., for their generous support to The Walk! We would also like to thank all the private individual sponsors and donors that contributed this year to fighting hunger.
Seven Team Members from Gentry Service Group traveled to Guatemala in April 2019 and built 2 homes and 9 wood burning stoves for underprivileged local residents. They were also able to minister to nearly 500 people in Santa Maria de Jesus and the surrounding villages by providing shelter, food, clothing and personal touch. The team enjoys these trips for not only giving back to those in need, but also for their own personal spiritual growth. Trips are planned each year and if you would like to learn more about them, or help on any future missions please reach out to Mr. Gentry (duane@gentryservice.com or 828-274-2520 x233).
Gentry Service Group is proud to be a sponsor of Loving Food Resources. LFR serves many of our neighbors living with HIV/AIDS or in Hospice care and struggling with food insecurity. This past Saturday, many of our team members partnered up in shifts to assist them with boxing up over 480lbs of food that was delivered to clients and also assisted the clients coming into the pantry to get their groceries. LFR serves 18 counties here in Western North Carolina and provides food, health and personal care items. We were so happy to have so many team members show up to lend a hand.
We were happy to have a group of our team members go out last week and assist First Baptist Church of Black Mountain and Swannanoa Christian Ministries serve some of the homeless here in Black Mountain/Swannanoa area. The church opens its fellowship hall in the winter months to offer a safe, warm place for people to get something to eat, a shower and a place to sleep. Our Chaplain, Glenn Lyles, and the Pastor of Swannanoa First Baptist Church, Dr. Jeff Dowdy, lead everyone in Prayer for Unity in our communities and in our nation. Breakfast was provided by Chick-fil-A.
The first week of April 2018 Gentry Service Group returned to Guatemala to serve the people there. This trip, a team of five Gentry Service Group staff traveled there to build a house for a family and to build stoves for five more families. It was a special time for our team to serve and be blessed by the wonderful people of Guatemala.
We donated 2 yards worth of compost to The Free Clinics of Hendersonville for them to use in their garden boxes. Terry Evans, our Commercial Sales Advisor, was happy to help with the delivery!

Every year our Gentry Team bands together to sponsor children that are either in sheltered, foster or orphaned situations. This year we were happy to partner with local radio station’s Mix 96.5 Christmas is for Kids – an annual event that partners with local agencies to ensure that displaced, foster or orphaned children get their Christmas wishes granted. This year we “adopted” 10 such children and everyone in the company contributed in order that every Christmas wish was granted.

Duane Gentry, our company President, stated:
“I am thankful to God for such a wonderful group of people that I get to work with every day. The gifts we gave to 10 orphans this Christmas were given by them – many of whom have difficultly providing gifts for their own families. Matthew 5:16 “…Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven”. Thank you Gentry Family for caring for others!”

Gentry Service Group attended the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry Walk for Hunger 2017 on Sunday, October 15th, 2017. Our group from Gentry Service Group helped pass out water bottles to those who participated in the Walk for Hunger, many participated in the Walk themselves, and Duane Gentry presented SVCM with a donation check that will go towards feeding the hungry in our area. We are proud to support SVCM both with our financial resources and volunteering our time; and we are passionate about feeding the hungry in our town. Overall, it was a fantastic day . . . even the dogs enjoyed the walk.”

The Mission of the Henderson County Hunger Coalition is “emergency food to needy families and individuals facing crisis situations”. The Coalition finances this work through donations raised by volunteers and Sponsorships received for the annual Hunger Walk… through gifts and contributions raised by supporting religious congregations, clubs, businesses, fraternal organizations, school-sponsored organizations and other groups… and through grants from foundations and individuals.

Gentry Service Group was one of the sponsors for this year’s Hunger Walk where we set up a tent to distribute water to the participants at Jackson Park in Hendersonville, NC – the starting point & finish line of the walk. The Team from Gentry Service Group enjoyed spending the day with all those who participated and took time to answer any HVAC questions they may have had.

Gentry Service Group will be starting a FREE 4-part Bible Study series that we would like to make available to the general public. Whether you’re married, about to get married, or single and hope to get married; you are welcome to come.

SERIES INFORMATION:
THE CRAZY CYCLE IN MARRIAGE by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

We know that divorce is a major issue in our culture today, both inside and outside the church. Despite our best attempts at love, couples find themselves paralyzed by dysfunction and mired in conflict. Why do we face so many seemingly insurmountable problems today? Is there hope for the struggle? What are we missing?

In this 4-part series, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs sheds light on an often overlooked, yet indispensable element of a healthy marriage—respect. Combining biblical instruction with scientific expertise, Emerson provides insight into the unique ways in which God has designed both men and women and how they can rightly embrace their differences in marriage. As couples come to see the heart behind their partner’s complaints, they will better understand the place for both love and respect between husband and wife. Rather than becoming another statistic, struggling marriages can break their Crazy Cycle and become thriving marriages by living in accordance to God’s good design.

Their doors open at 5:00 PM to those who are in need of a hot meal, showers, laundry facilities, a safe, warm place to sleep and protection from the elements. Our Team was able to prepare and serve a meal to those that are in need in our own community.

Talented men and women make these pillowcases into wonderful, little dresses to cloth young girls in these countries.
Such a wonderful day serving our neighbor, Ms. Hettie. Managers, technicians, office and sales staff, spouses and children came out to make spring cleaning just a little better for her. So much gratitude to all of our team who came out on this beautiful day. Special thanks to Okie Dokie Smokehouse for donating our BBQ lunch, Ingles for providing a carpet cleaner today, and to Madden Ace Hardware in Swannanoa for helping us provide a new window AC unit for Ms. Hettie.
